WR Freddie Phillips of Pelion informed the NC State coaching staff Monday night that he is committing to their program. Phillips had planned to announce his decision at his school Wednesday night but a family situation took precedence. He chose the Wolfpack over Wake Forest and North Carolina.
“I stayed up there overnight not too long ago and it just felt right,” Phillips said. “The camaraderie between the players made it one big family. I know that’s where I want to be.”
His affinity for the coaching staff also played into his decision.
“I really like coach (Dave) Doeren and the entire coaching staff,” he said. “I think they’ve go it moving in the right direction and I can’t wait to go there.”
Phillips did not completely dismiss the possibility of taking other visits but said his commitment is solid with the Pack.
“I’m sure I’ll visit them this summer and hang out up there,” he said.
