Coastal Carolina is becoming the home for wayward point guards from USC. Last season Eric Smith joined the Chanticleers after three seasons with the Gamecocks. And Friday Coastal coach Cliff Ellis announced he had signed Jalen Shaw who played his freshman season last season at USC.
“We are extremely excited Jaylen has decided to join our program at Coastal Carolina University,” said Ellis. “He was one of our most sought after recruits a year ago before signing with South Carolina. He fits the mold for what we look for in a combo guard. After sitting out a year he will be able to step right in and fill the void left by Josh Cameron who will be graduating. Coach (Frank) Martin spoke very highly of Jaylen and said he had the potential to be a great player and wished him luck in the future.”
Also Friday, the Charleston Post & Courier reported guard Matt Van Scyoc, The Citadel’s leading scorer last season, will transfer to Indiana State. Van Scyoc played two seasons with the Bulldogs but was forced to leave the school due to a honor code violation.
