Max Schrock legged out a triple to lead off the bottom of the 9th inning and after two intentional walks, Joey Pankake laced a single to center scoring Schrock and earning the Gamecocks a 2-1 victory over Missouri Sunday afternoon at Carolina Stadium. The Gamecocks swept the three game series to improve to 39-13 overall and 16-11 in the SEC. It’s the Gamecocks 5th walk-off win of the season.
Mizzou scored a run in the 4th off Wil Crowe on a home run by Dylan Kelly, but the Gamecocks tied the game in the bottom of the fifth on a RBI single by Patrick Harrington.
Tigers starter Keaton Steele didn’t look like a pitcher with 7 losses coming into the game. He kept the Gamecocks off the board the rest of the way until the 9th. He gave up 7 hits, struck out 4 and walked 2 but saw his record fall to 0-8 on the season.
Crowe was equally outstanding in his 7 innings of work allowing 1 run on 4 hits. He struck out 4 and walked 1.
Cody Mincey pitched the last two innings for USC and allowed 1 hit in picking up his 5th win of the season against no defeats.
The Gamecocks play host to The Citadel Tuesday night then travel to Vanderbilt Thursday for their final SEC series of the season. The Gamecocks and Commodores are tied for second in the SEC East at 16-11, three games back of Florida.
