USC quarterback Connor Shaw did not hear his name called during the NFL Draft but he’s going to to the league nonetheless. Shaw announced on his Twitter page he had signed a free agent contract with the Cleveland Browns.
The Browns, of course, drafted former Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Johnny Manziel in the first round. They also recently signed former Coastal Carolina quarterback Tyler Thigpen to a free agent contract after a workout.
Also signing as free agents from USC Saturday were cornerback Jimmy Legree with the Super Bowl champs Seattle Seahawks, defensive lineman Kelcy Quarles with the New York Giants and defensive end Chaz Sutton with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Cornerback Victor Hampton, who left school a year early, remained unsigned as a of Saturday night.
Two Gamecocks were taken in the draft. Defensive end Jadeveon Clowney was the overall top pick by Houston and wide receiver Bruce Ellington was chosen in round four by San Franciso.
