6-6 Tevin Mack of Dreher made the short ride over to the USC basketball office with his coach Thursday afternoon for a face to face meeting with Gamecock head coach Frank Martin and assistant Matt Figger. “It was pretty cool,” Mack said. “They talked about how I’ve started to progress in the past year. They like how I’ve developed in the past year. And they talked about their team and the program. We had a good conversation.”
Mack continues to rise in the eyes of recruiters. He had a big performance in an AAU event last week end in Pittsburgh and Wake Forest offered him earlier in the week. Martin scouted Mack in Pittsburgh but did not make an offer Thursday.
“He (Martin) was saying they have two scholarships in my class and he said he doesn’t offer scholarships just to throw them out there,” Mack said. “He was like whenever I get to my time to decide where I want to go or make a decision on a top five I should let him know. That’s when I guess it will come, during that time.”
Mack currently has offers from Georgia, Wake Forest, VCU, Houston, Jacksonville, Miami of Ohio, Stephen F. Austin and Virginia Tech. Tennessee has also been in touch and Mack plans to visit there soon. He’s also had recent contact from Kansas and Georgetown.
He also talked with Clemson on Wednesday night and they want him to visit as well. “They want me on campus and they said they’ll offer then because coach Brownell likes to do it in person with your parents. My mom works a lot so we’ve got to find a day to make that happen.”
Mack says there are no favorites right now. “Everything is even. I don’t have any favorites. I’m open to everything right now.”
