In case you haven’t noticed there are about a half a million college baseball polls out there, and none of them are the same. Here at SportsTalk, we subscribe to the Collegiate Baseball and Baseball America polls. This week we are adding the USA Today Coaches poll to the mix as well. Of course, all polls are flawed, and in college baseball they don’t mean much, especially in late March, but they are still fun to follow. Just try not to get too worked up over where your team is or isn’t ranked, alright?
Okay, now that we have the disclaimer out of the way, lets get to the polls.
Collegiate Baseball has USC ranked number one this week. The Gamecocks finished last week at 5-0 and improved to 24-3 after a weekend sweep over Tennessee. Clemson, fresh off a win over Georgia and two wins over Maryland moved up to 23rd in the poll.
Baseball America kept Florida State in the top spot in its poll. It also kept USC at number two for a second consecutive week. Clemson slid up four spots to number 16.
The ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll has Florida State first, Virginia second, and USC third. Somehow Clemson managed to drop from 18th to 22nd, even though the Tigers didn’t loose a game last week. Like we said, these polls are goofy sometimes.
USC is back in action tomorrow night with a home game against Appalachian State. The Gamecocks open an SEC series at Arkansas Thursday night. Clemson has a pair of home games against Furman and Winthrop in the midweek, then an ACC home stand against NC State Saturday afternoon.
