The wins and the scoreless innings continue to pile up for top ranked USC. The Gamecocks ran their unbeaten streak to 16 and their pitchers extended their current shutout innings streak to 42 in a 5-0 win over Furman Tuesday night at Carolina Stadium.
Six Gamecock hurlers combined on a five hit shut out striking out four and walking four. Taylor Widener got the start and pitched into the fourth inning to earn his first career victory. It’s the 9th shout of the season for Gamecock pitching.
Elliott Caldwell paced the offense with three hits and two RBIs. Connor Bright added two hits and raised his averaged to .424. And Kyle Martin ripped his third homer of the season.
The Gamecocks played without Joey Pankake and Max Schrock who are nursing injuries.
Prior to the game, USC honored student Martha Childress who was left paralyzed after a shooting incident in Five Points last year.
The Gamecocks will open their SEC season Friday at home against Ole Miss.
