Clemson and Maryland played their final regular season game as ACC rivals Sunday afternoon at Littlejohn Coliseum and apparently they didn’t want the rivalry to end quickly. It took two overtime periods for the Tigers to claim a 77-73 victory.
The win was big for Clemson because it clinches a spot for the Tigers in Thursday’s main draw of the ACC Tournament. It also breaks a four game losing streak to the Terps and gives Clemson it’s 50th win in the series against 90 defeats.
Maryland led 71-70 with 1:32 to play on a jumper by Seth Allen. That would be the Terps’ final basket. Nineteen seconds later Damarcus Harrison nailed a three pointer for the Tigers and they never trailed from there. Leading 75-73 with :18 to play, Rod Hall knocked down a pair of free throws to clinch the win.
KJ McDaniels led Clemson with 26 points. He also had 14 rebounds, 6 blocks and 3 assists. Hall had 16 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. 10 of his points came in the two overtime periods. And Landry Nnoko added 11 points and 9 boards.
Clemson mailed on three three-pointers on the day but made up for that with 24 made free throws out of 35 attempts.
