Clemson defensive coordinator has reached into South Florida to offer LB Tevon Coney (6-2 215) of Palm Beach Gardens. Coney plays middle linebacker and made 172 tackles with 14 sacks last season, but he expects to play outside linebacker in college. “I was pretty happy about it,” Coney said about his Clemson offer. “I was surprised. I’m thankful about it. It’s a good academic school and a good football school. Coach Venables was honest with me about recruiting and he told me about his personal background. He thinks I can help beat Florida State when I get there.” Coney also has offers from Florida, Kentucky, Ole Miss, NC State, Ohio State, Tennessee, West Virginia, South Alabama, Appalachian State, Florida Atlantic, Florida International and Western Michigan. He went to Miami’s junior day and might go to Florida this weekend. He hopes to visit Clemson this spring or summer. There is no favorite right now and he has no timetable on a decision. “Whenever I get the good feeling about committing I will,” Coney said.
