Clemson saw a golden opportunity to boost their NCAA Tournament resume slip away late in a 63-58 loss to 17th ranked Virginia Saturday afternoon at Littlejohn Coliseum. The Tigers went into the game squarely on the bubble. ESPN’s Joe Lumardi had the Tigers as one of the teams of the “next four out” after the “first four out.”
A victory no doubt would have boosted their hopes especially with a home friendly schedule the rest of the way. But the Cavaliers took a 45-43 lead with 6:11 to play and the Tigers could not come up with the plays to catch up or take the lead.
Here’s our At the Stadium recap from David Hood
Obviously it was a disappointed Brad Brownell and Clemson players who talked with the media after the loss.
The win gives Virginia its first nine game winning streak since the 1981-82 season and it snaps the Cavaliers’ four game losing streak at Clemson. Virinia improves to 21-5 and 12-1 in the ACC.
The Tigers dropped their third in a row and are 15-9 and 6-6. They will host NC State Tuesday night at 7:00 PM.
