USC opened its 2014 baseball season on a coolish Saturday afternoon at Carolina Stadium with a no sweat 17-4 win over Bucknell. The Gamecocks blew the game open with a pair of 6 run innings.
They had only 10 hits but benefited from wildness by the Bison pitching staff as they issued 13 walks, hit 4 batters, threw 5 wild pitches and had 2 balks.
Designated hitter DC Arendas led the Gamecock offense with 3 hits including his first career home run. Kyle Martin, Grayson Greiner and Marcus Mooney had two hits apiece.
On the mound starter Jordan Montgomery gave the Gamecocks a strong 5 innings allowing just 3 hits, striking out 4 and walking 1 to earn the victory.
