Opening Day for baseball has been somewhat tumultuous for programs in the south, and the USC program is no exception. With wintry weather not seen in South Carolina in a long time sweeping through the state this week, the Gamecocks Friday opener with Bucknell was suspended, and will be made up as a part of a double-header on Saturday.
So, there was no first pitch today, but USC head coach Chad Holbrook did have the opportunity to meet with the media one more time to discuss his team, preview the matchup with Bucknell, and the 2014 campaign in general.
Holbrook broke down the weekend pitching rotation versus the Bison. Ace Jordan Montgomery will get the ball game 1 of the double-header, and will be followed up by sophomore Jack Wynkoop. Highly touted freshman Wil Crowe will get the nod on Sunday to round out the weekend’s action.
Holbrook also broke down the position battles, and intimated that there will be more than a pre-determined nine that will see the field on the weekend.
First pitch of Game one of Saturday’s double-header is scheduled for noon. Game 2 is tentatively scheduled for 4:00.
