One prospect has come off USC’s recruiting board but another has been added. Shrine Bowl DL Arthur Williams of Fayetteville, NC was scheduled for an official visit with the Gamecocks this weekend but his coach said Friday afternoon Williams canceled the visit and will stick to his commitment to Florida State. But the Gamecocks are getting a visit this weekend from TE Jerry Gibson (6-3 220) of Theodore, AL. Gibson flew into Charlotte this afternoon on his way to Columbia and confirmed the visit. “I’m just coming to take a visit,” Gibson said. He has been committed to Minnesota since late November and said that remains the case. “I’m firmly committed to Minnesota. I don’t think there’s anything that can really change me.” Asked when he’ll make a final decision, Gibson said, “My decision’s already made.” Gibson said the Gamecocks actually made first contact with him last spring. Gibson played several positions in high school but the Gamecocks are recruiting him as a tight end.
Also scheduled to visit the Gamecocks this weekend are committed defensive ends Jhaustin Thomas of Trinity Valley JC, TX and Dante Sawyer of Suwanee, GA.

USC commitment Wesley Green of Lithonia, GA told the AJC.com late Friday afternoon he might not be able to make his official visit to Georgia this weekend because of a family emergency. Green did not totally rule out going to Athens Saturday or even for a few hours on Sunday.
DE Andrew Williams of McDonough, GA confirmed today on Twitter that he will take an official visit to Georgia this weekend. Williams wrote that he would be going to Athens on Saturday. He has taken official visits to Clemson and Auburn. Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney and Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn, along with some of their assistants, had in home visits with Williams Thursday.
Byrnes WR Shaedon Meadors was offered earlier this week by Rutgers and will take an official visit there this weekend. He committed to Appalachian State last week.
DB Jaquavious Mackey of Northwestern will sign with Georgia Military JC. He played in the Touchstone Energy North-South Game.
USC commitment DJ Smith of Marietta, GA had an in home visit Thursday night with USC recruiters Lorenzo Ward and Grady Brown. Smith remains firm with his commitment to the Gamecocks.
DL Cory Thomas of McCalla, AL is making his official visit to Tennessee this weekend and going into this visit Clemson now appears to be the team to beat despite his commitment to the Vols. Thomas told Tigernet.com he now favors Clemson. “My final decision will be on signing day, but as of right now, I can safely say that Clemson is number one,” he said. That’s a sentiment supported Friday night by Thomas’ father. “He said he’s going to sign with Clemson,” Mr. Thomas said. Thomas committed to Tennessee in November. Last season Thomas had 75 tackles with 6 tackles for loss and 3 sacks.
USC recruiter Steve Spurrier Jr. was not able to get DE Blake McClain of Jacksonville, FL to switch his visit this weekend to USC from Nebraska, but he was able to convince him to hold off on making a decision until after visiting USC. So, McClain said Thursday night he will take his official visit to Nebraska this weekend and will visit USC after Signing Day. That visit will be either the first or second weekend in February. Spurrier Jr. rushed down to Jacksonville Thursday afternoon to meet with McClain who had decommitted from Florida State Wednesday. Nebraska was in on Wednesday and was able to nail down this weekend’s visit. But Spurrier Jr. was able to meet with McClain at school and at his home Thursday night and laid out for him the Gamecock’s situation at defensive end as well as some other selling points of the school and program. “He said the support you get from the academic center is incredible and they make sure you don’t fail. The only way you fail out of their school is if you don’t show up to class.” McClain’s official visit to USC will be his first visit to the school. He said he’s 50-50 between the schools. He will visit Nebraska this weekend by himself.
USC recruiter Deke Adams visited Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School Friday to check in on junior DL Albert Huggins. Huggins is one of the top prospects in the state for 2015 and his offers include USC, Clemson, Florida State, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Louisville, Georgia, NC State, Auburn, North Carolina, Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech. Huggins said he won’t attend Clemson’s junior day this weekend.
