USC took the opening kickoff and with Connor Shaw completing passes and running, the Gamecocks moved to the Badgers 28. But Shaw was sacked on second down and a third down pass to Shaq Roland went for a short gain. That forced a Gamecock punt to the end zone.
The Badgers displayed their running game on their first possession moving 55 yards on the ground to the Gamecock 25. The Badgers, however, were forced to settle for a field goal attempt from 48 yards which they faked. A pass by the holder Drew Meyer fell incomplete and the Gamecocks took over.
The Gamecock defense came up with a big play on Wisconsin’s next possession. Skai Moore picked off Joel Stave at the Badger’s 39. On the next play, Shaw hit Bruce Ellington with a 39 yard scoring pass for a 7-0 USC lead.
Shaw was 6-7 for 75 yards passing in the quarter.
