Tomorrow the best high school football talent from both North and South Carolina will go toe-to-toe in the 77th rendition of the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.
Earlier this week Phil Kornblut had an opportunity to talk with some of the coaches and players from the Sandlapper squad that will be playing in Saturday’s game.
Two Mr. Football award finalists took the time to chat with Korn about their expectations for the all-star game.
The starting quarterback for the Sandlapper squad has yet to be determined between Stratford’s Jacob Park and Northwestern’s Mason Rudolph. Rudolph, a Oklahoma State commit, addressed the continuing competition with Park, and his expectations for the South Carolina team’s offense.
Another Mr. Football finalist, offensive lineman Donell Stanley, just so happens to attend the same high school Korn attended many, many years ago. Therefore, he granted an interview more by way of Latta High relation than choice. Stanley will play tackle for the South Carolina squad, but in talking about his future in college, believes he’ll be playing guard on Saturdays.
Saturday’s Shrine Bowl will kick off at Gibbs Stadium in Spartanburg at 1:00 and will air on ESPN3.com. A replay of the game can be seen on ESPNU December 27th at 3:00.
