With Clemson and Ohio State set to meet in the Orange Bowl next month there has been a lot of reminiscing about the last time the Tigers and Buckeyes met on the gridiron. That, of course, was the 1978 Gator Bowl. It was the head coaching debut for legendary Clemson coach Danny Ford and the final game for Ohio State legend Woody Hayes. Ford’s Tigers won the game 17-15, but the game will forever be remembered for the punch Hayes threw that cost him his job. Earlier today Ford recalled how things unfolded that day and how he found out about Hayes fate later that night.
“It seemed like nothing ever happened easy when I was coaching.”
Many days have passed since Danny Ford last roamed a sideline, but he continues to be a treasure for our state.
