It was more of the same for Dabo Swinney and Clemson Saturday night. For a fifth straight year Swinney’s Tigers were outmatched by their in-state rival. For the most part it was a carbon copy of the previous four USC wins: The Gamecocks controlled both lines of scrimmage, leaned on a heavy dose of running from the quarterback, and forced Clemson into costly mistakes.
Saturday night’s final in Williams-Brice Stadium was 31-17. The Gamecocks average margin of victory in the five wins is almost 17 points. Just like the other four, this one didn’t end up close by the end.
After the game a disappointed Swinney shrugged his shoulders and did his best to explain another crushing loss to the Gamecocks.
