Before Dwight Clark made “The Catch” for the 49ers against the Cowboys to forever earn his place in NFL history, Jerry Butler made “The Catch” for Clemson in a 1977 win at USC that forever placed him in the hearts of Tiger fans. Of course, Butler was already one of the greats of Clemson football and he cemented his place in history by leaping into the air to snare a Steve Fuller pass to save the Tigers after they had blown a comfortable lead. And the ABC TV cameras were there to show it to the nation. So let’s turn back the clock to 1977 and relive once of the great plays in the 110 year history of the rivalry as narrated by the late Jim Phillips.
