USC’s defense will get one final look at Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd Saturday night. While Boyd has broken 52 Clemson offensive records and will leave school as the second most prolific passer in ACC history, he’s done very little in two previous starts against the Gamecocks.
In 2011 Boyd was 11-29 passing for 83 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception, and he rushed for minus 23 yards. And last year Boyd was 11-24 passing for 183 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception, and he rushed for 26 yards.
So first under Ellis Johnson and then Lorenzo Ward, the Gamecock defense has been well prepared for the high flying Tigers under Chad Morris. Can their defense stifle Boyd and company again? Cornerback Victor Hampton shared his thoughts about that following Saturday’s win over Coastal Carolina.
Clemson will enter the game 10th in the country in total offense at 515 yards per game and 8th in passing at 339 yards. USC is ranked 19th in total defense at 344 yards per game and 17th against the pass at 200 yards per game.
