That’s the first time the Gamecocks reached the 70 point mark under Spurrier and their most points since beating Kent 77-14 in 1995.
Coastal did manage a field goal of 46 yards from Alex Catron late in the quarter to make the final score USC 70-Coastal Carolina 10. It’s the fourth time a Steve Spurrier coached team scored at least 70 points in a game. It happened three times at Florida with a high of 82 points.
USC finished with 639 yards matching the most they’ve had in a game under Spurrier. Thompson passed for 140 yards and Smith finished with a career high 103 rushing yards.
