And the onslaught continues. The Tigers were backed up to their 9 after a punt, and a sack of Boyd put them at the 4. But on third down Boyd hit Watkins for 96 yards and a touchdown. It’s the second longest play in Clemson history behind a 97 yard pass play against Virginia in 1974. Clemson leads 42-7.
The Cavaliers moved the ball on their next drive into Clemson territory with a first down on the 23. But three straight incomplete passes stalled things and Alec Vozenilk booted a 40 yard field goal to make it a 42-10 lead for the Tigers.
Cole Stoudt came on as quarterback for Clemson on the next possession as the Tigers starting working in their reserves. Clemson did miss a field goal attempt by Ammon Lakip late in the quarter.
End of quarter…Clemson 42-10.
