DE Dante Sawyer of Suwanee, GA has talked for weeks about getting to USC for a game and today he tweeted he will be at this Saturday’s game against Mississippi State. The Gamecocks have been one of his favorites along with Tennessee, Auburn and Missouri. He has been to Tennessee, Auburn and Georgia for games. Sawyer plans to take his official visits before making his decision.
WR Akilian Butler of Mesquite, TX made the long trip to Clemson for the Florida State weekend along with his quarterback Chason Virgil. Clemson is Butler’s only offer right now and the trip gave him a chance to see what the Tigers are all about. “I liked it very much, I enjoyed the visit a lot,” Butler said. “The fans, I liked their dedication towards the players. I talked to coach Morris and coach Scott and they were telling me about the facilities and about Clemson. They said they like me a lot and want me at the school. I’m just letting the recruiting process sink in. I like them a lot but I don’t know yet. I’ve got a lot to think about.” Butler is also drawing the interest of Notre Dame, Georgia, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Baylor and Texas A&M. “Texas is showing a lot of interest,” he said. Butler does not have any favorites at this point and won’t rush a decision. He did say he and Virgil have talked some about going to the same school but it’s not a major factor for either one. Butler has 5 touchdown catches this season.
DE Michael Barnett of Woodland has had a top three of Virginia Tech, Florida and Florida State. Monday night Barnett said there’s only one school on his mind right now, and that’s Virginia Tech. He said the Hokies are #1 on his list and there is not #2 or #3 right now. “I like the family atmosphere, everybody is real nice down there,” Barnett said. “I like the stadium. I just like the whole atmosphere. I like Virginia Tech as a whole. I love (defensive coordinator) coach Foster. Coach Foster is pretty cool. He’s a real down to earth coach.” Barnett also likes the similarities between Tech’s defensive scheme and his team’s. Despite the strong feeling for the Hokies, Barnett is not ready to commit and will hold off on a final decision until next year. He has been to games at Virginia Tech, Clemson, USC, NC State, Georgia Tech and Florida and is going to Florida State this Saturday for the Miami game. Barnett has an offer from Clemson and the Tigers continue to show interest. “They really want me to come back up there for a game and they really liked it when I came up there for the visit,” he said. USC also remains in touch with Barnett but has not offered. “They just say I have to get better, that’s all I was told,” said Barnett who talks with Gamecock recruiter Everette Sands. Barnett said Clemson is showing more interest in him than USC. His other offers are Florida, Florida State, Tennessee, NC State and Georgia Tech. After the Florida State visit, Barnett will visit Tennessee the following weekend. He has no other visits planned for this season.
OL Donnie Foster of Bradenton, FL continues to hear from USC and Clemson and has plans to visit Columbia following the season. His offers are from Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth and Savannah State with interest from USC, Clemson, Florida State, Miami, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech and Indiana among others. Foster visited USC this spring. “I really liked my time up there and I like what they’re doing with the program,” Foster said. “I would definitely be interested in them. I Coach (Everette) Sands keeps in touch with me and he is telling me they’re still looking. They want to take a look at my game film at the end of the season.” Foster is also hearing from the Tigers. “They keep in touch with me,” he said. “I was supposed to go up there for the Wake Forest game but my game got in the way. Hopefully, I can go another time.” Foster has attended games at Florida State and Miami and has plans to attend a game at Mississippi State later this season. He does not have any favorites and is waiting to see if he will receive more offers following the season.
Class of 2015 WR Freddie Phillips of Pelion already has a couple of offers and continues to hear from several ACC and SEC schools. His latest visit was to Georgia. “I hear from coach coach (Mike) Bobo some and they’re showing some interest,” Phillips said. “I really enjoyed the trip. It was my first time there-seeing the campus and all of that-it was really nice.” Phillips is hearing from Clemson, USC and Florida State among others and has offers from North Carolina and NC State. Earlier in the season he visited the two schools picking up offers on each trip. With no immediate plans to attend another game, Phillips would like to make it over to Williams-Brice during the USC home stand. “I will definitely try to get out there for one or two games,” he said. “I haven’t looked at the schedule yet, but yeah, I want to get out there.” Phillips does not have a leader saying, “I haven’t been to USC yet so I don’t want to pick a favorite.”
