Boston College gets on the board early in the quarter with freshman Myles Willis getting free on a 38 yard touchdown run, the longest run of the season for the Eagles. It’s only the third time all season Clemson has trailed (21-14 vs Georgia, 7-6 vs NC State). Boston College 7-0.
Clemson continued to stumble around on offense. The Tigers were moving the ball on their first possession of the quarter but Zac Brooks lost a fumble at the BC 47 after a 14 yard pass reception.
Next possession the Tigers moved into BC territory, and from the 28 Sammy Watkins took the handoff and while rolling to the right overthrew a wide open Adam Humphries for a sure touchdown. The Tigers later had to call on Cantanzaro again for a 45 yard field goal attempt. The snap was good but holder Corbin Jenkins dropped it and the kick was never attempted.
On Clemson’s next possession Rod McDowell put the ball on the ground and the Eagles recovered at their 32.
While the offense sputtered, the Clemson defense kept the Eagles offense at bay after that one touchdown drive. The Eagles had three punts and a pass interception the rest of the quarter.
Clemson finally got on the board on the last play of the quarter on a 35 yard field goal by Cantanzaro.
