York High School head football coach Bobby Carroll defended Jadeveon Clowney on SportsTalk Wednesday night. Carroll coached Clowney at SouthPointe High School, and he said he spoke with Clowney yesterday. He said Cloweny was “a little down” so many people questioning the validity of his injury.
“I can promise you if Clowney said he couldn’t play he was hurting to the point he couldn’t play,” Carroll said. “I know the kid pretty well.” Carroll told a story about Clowney playing through bone spurs his sophomore year and waiting until the end of the season for surgery so he could finish the season. He said Clowney wears a walking boot almost all week before USC games because the bone spurs are so painful.
