The Tigers welcomed the Orange to ACC competition with a touchdown on the game’s third play. Tajh Boyd found Adam Humphries all alone behind the Syracuse secondary for a 60 yard touchdown pass and a quick 7-0 lead. It was Humphries’ first touchdown catch of the season. And it’s the second week in a row the Tigers scored on the game’s third play. Last week Boyd hit Sammie Watkins for 63 yards.
Later in the quarter the Tigers showed they could muscle up and drive the football. Starting from their 8 after a 75 yard punt, the Tigers marched the 92 yards in 10 plays with Zac Brooks scoring from a yard out. Brooks was big on the drive rushing for 24 yards and catching a 24 yard pass. 14-0 Clemson.
The Tigers went back to their quick strike mode on their next possession. Starting at their 25, the Tigers moved the ball on the ground to the Orange 42. They Boyd hooked up with Humphries again for a 42 yard scoring strike. 21-0 Clemson.
Clemson had 278 yards in the quarter.
