You can add bruised ribs to USC defensive end Jadeveon Clowney’s long list of ailments. Clowney did not practice Thursday because of bruised ribs. The injury isn’t expected to keep him off the field for Saturday’s game against Kentucky. For those scoring at home, so far Clowney has dealt with a stomach bug, bone spurs, flu like symptoms and now bruised ribs this season.
After practice defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward updated his unit’s preparation for Kentucky this weekend. He’s not backing away from the heat the Gamecock defensive players have taken after its near collapse against UCF.
All the criticism we get, we deserve. Anytime you give up 153 yards in two plays, obviously something’s wrong. We’ll address it. We’ve got good kids. We understand when we make mistakes what we need to do to fix them. We went to work on Monday and tried to correct them. They came out and practiced hard all week. I feel like we’re going to be a better football team. We’ve started to get better as a defense. You take those two plays out and other than the first series I thought we played well in the ballgame. We’ve got to keep building. The biggest thing with us is we haven’t played well for four quarters.”
