We don’t usually watch the coaches’ shows around here, but early this week we kept getting emails and phone calls about Steve Spurrier’s show this past Sunday. The online community is buzzing that Spurrier was buzzing when he did the show. Adding to the speculation was word that the show had been scrubbed from web so it couldn’t be watched again. We aren’t sure if that was the case, but it is true we couldn’t find it to watch for ourselves until an emailer sent it to us this morning. I just watched it. My take? Well, he didn’t seem as sharp as normal, but I hardly think there is conclusive evidence to positively say he was drunk. Something did seem off though, no denying that. He looked more loopy than drunk to me. Keep in mind this is an almost 70 year-old man in the early morning hours after a road trip. There are a lot of things that don’t involve alcohol that could be in play here.
You can be your own judge. The action starts around the 12 minute mark:
Steve Spurrier and USC A.D. Ray Tanner explained the decision to pull Sunday’s show to The State newspaper. Quote of note: When asked if he was impaired in any way, he said, “I hope not.”
