Clemson had to work for it, but the third ranked Tigers went on the road and opened ACC play with a hard fought 26-14 win over NC State.
The high powered Clemson offense came out of the gate slow and didn’t score its first touchdown until the final 3:00 minutes of the first half. It was a 13-6 game at halftime. The Wolfpack didn’t have much going offensively, but they were hanging around. Just past the midway point in the third quarter it looked like they were going to take the lead on a long touchdown run by Bryan Underwood. However, the officials ruled him out of bounds on the Clemson 48 and three plays later Vic Beasley picked up a sack and forced a fumble. A few plays later Tajh Boyd hit Martavis Bryant on a 30 yard touchdown to give the Tigers a two score margin and further irate the Wolfpack fans who were still booing the out of bounds ruling on the previous possession.
The replay looked like Underwood stayed in bounds, but a screen grab sent to us via Twitter appears to show his foot was on the line. The official on the field blew the play dead as Underwood was scoring so it wasn’t a reviewable play.
