After forcing a three and out by Georgia on the first possession of the half, USC missed a chance to take the lead. The Gamecocks drove into Georgia territory and appeared set to come away with some points. But on a fourth down run in which he picked up the first down at the Georgia 25, Shaw lost the football as he was going to the ground and the Dogs recovered.
Georgia converted that Gamecock turnover into points. The Bulldogs drove to the Gamecock 13 but Murray was sacked on third down by Marquis Roberts. Beless came on and booted a 37 yard field goal for a 27-24 Georgia lead.
The Bulldogs made it a ten point advantage with a late quarter touchdown. The Bulldogs went 82 yards in 13 plays with Murray hitting Gurley on an 8 yard scoring pass. It was the first touchdown reception of Gurley’s career. Georgia leads 34-24.
On the final play of the quarter, Davis broke free on a 75 yard run to the Georgia 5 to give the Gamecocks some of the momentum back entering the fourth quarter.
End of quarter…Georgia 34-USC 24.
