Georgia opened the quarter with its third scoring drive in as many possessions. The Bulldogs went 69 yards in 7 plays with Murray hitting Keith Marshall out of the backfield with a 6 yard scoring pass. Marshall was huge on the drive with runs of 28 and 16 yards. The Gamecocks also were hit with a 15 yard face mask penalty when Kelcy Quarles ripped the helmet off of Gurley on a running play. Jadeveon Clowney did sack Murray on the drive, his first sack of the season. Georgia 17-3.
With the game getting out of hand, the Gamecocks put together an 84 yard scoring drive that took 12 plays. Mike Davis got the drive moving early with a 23 yard run. Shaw broke free for 20, and on a fourth and two from the Georgia 14, Davis moved the chains with an 3 yard run. Brandon Wilds capped the drive with a seven yard scoring run. Georgia 17-USC 10.
A kicking game mistake by Georgia allows USC to tie the game a few minutes later. The Gamecocks forced Georgia to line up for its first punt of the game but Collin Barber dropped the snap and USC recovered at the Georgia 18. On the next play Shaw hit Nick Jones in the right corner of the end zone for the tying score. USC 17-Georgia 17.
Georgia gave the Gamecocks a steady diet of Gurley on their next possession to break the tie. He had 7 carries on the 11 play, 70 yard drive, including a two yard touchdown run, as the Bulldogs retake the lead 24-17.
But USC would not go quietly into halftime. Shaw orchestrated a two minute drive (1:25 actually) that ended with a 30 yard scoring pass to Jones and a 24-24 tie at intermission.
The Gamecocks have 233 first half yards, Georgia with 235.
