USC took the opening kickoff and put together an 11 play drive that reached the Georgia 16. But a substitution penalty on third down cost the Gamecocks 5 yards and Connor Shaw was stopped after a three yard gain on the third down play. Elliott Fry booted a 36 yard field goal for a 3-0 USC lead.
The lead didn’t last long. Georgia hurried down the field with a 12 yard run by Todd Gurley, a 32 yard pass from Aaron Murray and a 19 yard run to the USC one by Gurley. On second and goal from the three, Murray executed play action perfectly and found his tight end Aaron Murray wide open for a touchdown pass. Georgia 7-3.
The Bulldogs recovered an onside kick after their touchdown to start another scoring drive. They reached the Gamecock five and settled for a 22 yard field goal by Patrick Beless. Georgia 10-3.
