The Clemson defense got the stops when it needed to in the Tigers win over Georgia, but they’ve also got plenty of room to get better after giving up 35 points and 545 yards of total offense in that game. With a lighter test coming this week against S.C. State, defensive coordinator Brent Venables wants to see how focused and disciplined his players are this week.
After one game Venables says it is clear his defense is better now than it was this time last year. Specifically he said the unit is more physical and able to play with more effort, speed, and confidence. Sure there were some mistakes and there is plenty to improve on, but there are a lot of reasons for optimism. Venables had a lot of interesting things to say so you should take a few minutes and listen to his interview below.
