Clemson went back on top early in the third quarter. Boyd hit Zac Brooks with a 31 yard touchdown pass. For Brooks, the sophomore running back from Arkansas, it was his first career touchdown. Clemson 28-Georgia 21.
The Bulldogs answered with a 75 yard, 7 play drive. The Bulldogs faked a punt and gained a first down to keep the drive alive, and Gurley capped it with a 12 yard touchdown run. Clemson 28-Georgia 28.
Clemson retook the lead driving deep into Georgia territory but settling for a 24 yard field goal by Chandler Cantanzaro. Boyd threw incomplete on third down breaking a string of 10 straight completions.
Georgia missed a golden opportunity to take the lead or at least tie the game on its next possession. The Bulldogs drove to the Clemson 2 and on third down Hicks was stopped for no gain. On the field goal attempt, the snap was high and the holder had to fall on the ball at the Clemson 8.
