Each team went three and out on their first possession, then Clemson got the scoring rolling with a 76 yard drive in 9 plays capped by a 4 yard run by Tajh Boyd. Boyd also was 3-3 passing on the drive for 51 yards. It’s the 90th touchdown of his career rushing and passing combined.
Georgia wasted no time catching up. On the first play of the next possession, Todd Gurley took a pitch and broke free off the right side for a 75 yard touchdown run, the longest run of his career.
Not to be outdone, on the first play of the next possession, Boyd hit Sammy Watkins on a short pass over the middle, and Watkins broke a tackle and was off to the races for a 77 yard score. It was the longest scoring pass of Boyd’s career and the longest scoring reception of Watkins’ career.
Georgia came right back with a scoring drive of 75 yards in 11 plays. Keith Marshall scored on a four yard run with DJ Reader (all 325 pounds of him) draped on his back for the final three.
