SportsTalk’s annual Palmetto Pigskin tour continued Thursday night in Clinton, South Carolina, as Phil Kornblut hit the road for the third consecutive night, this time showing up on Presbyterian college’s campus to talk Blue Hose football with head coach Harold Nichols and two of his standout players.
The Blue Hose finished a disappointing 2-9 in their fifth season in the Big South last year, but coach Nichols has made some alterations to his staff , including bringing the former head coach of the program, Tommy Spangler, on board as the defensive coordinator.
Nichols believes his squad’s win total will spike because his defense that lost only two seniors from last year, along with the addition of coach Spangler, will be much improved. He also likes the way the 2013 schedule will shake up compared to last season.
Next up Blue Hose offensive lineman James Festa and linebacker Donelle Williams stepped away from “steak night”, strapped on the headphones, and sat down for a couple of minutes with Korn to preview the upcoming season. Festa breaks down his unit, which is returning all 5 starters from last year, and Williams elaborates on the evolution of his D under the tutelage of a new coordinator.
