Like a lot of teams at this point in camp, USC’s injury list is growing by the day. Gamecock wide receiver coach Steve Spurrier Jr. was a disappointed that a couple of his key wideouts weren’t able to go today. Spurrier Jr. stressed a few times that he was disappointed Bruce Ellington wasn’t able to go Tuesday. He said he really missed Ellington’s leadership and voice. Shamier Jeffery, who has been impressive this preseason, also missed practice with an ankle injury. Both are expected back soon.
Here is the official injury report:
Several Gamecocks did not participate in Tuesday’s workout. Among those sidelined included Shamier Jeffery (ankle), Bruce Ellington (hamstring), Cedrick Cooper (elbow), Cody Gibson (knee), JT Surratt (lower back) and Mason Zandi (illness). Walk-on Kyle Morini suffered a dislocated elbow on Tuesday. Wide receiver Jody Fuller (shoulder) returned to practice.
And here are some comments from Spurrier Jr. and also running backs coach Everett Sands breaking down the battle for the starting running back job between Mike Davis and Brandon Wilds.
