USC practiced again Monday night and it was a mixed bag on the injury front. Defensive end Jadeveon Clowney returned action after sitting out most of Sunday with a minor knee injury, but linebacker Cedrick Cooper went down with an elbow injury.
Junior All-America defensive end Jadeveon Clowney returned to practice after sitting out much of Sunday’s practice. He tweaked his knee during Saturday’s practice.
“He just got banged up a little bit, but he’s fine,” said defensive line coach Deke Adams. “He had a great day.”
Sophomore linebacker Cedrick Cooper dislocated his left elbow during Monday’s practice. He is expected to be sidelined a few days.
“They’re saying it’s not that bad,” said linebackers coach Kirk Botkin. “We’ll check and know more tomorrow.” Although Cooper is expected back within a week, Botkin said it gave an opportunity for some of the younger players to make an impression. “We have some young guys who need reps. The next guy has got to be able to step up. You never know when your number is going to be called to step in and make a play. We’ll watch film and evaluate those guys.”
