The first practice of the preseason camp is in the books at USC. Of note: Shaq Roland and Jerell Adams didn’t practice because of academics. Steve Spurrier expects both to be back when the team returns to practice Saturday night. There were no significant injuries reported.
Perhaps the highlight of the night was a fight on the second to last play of practice between defensive lineman Deon Green and offensive lineman Na’Ty Rodgers. It was quite a bout with both exchanging several punches. It wasn’t anything over the top; no one went Steve Smith on the other guy or anything like that. After about 30 seconds they were separated without further incident. A couple of the offensive coaches seemed impressed with the true freshman Rogers didn’t back down. “It’s nice to know he’s a fighter,” said Steve Spurrier Jr. to Shawn Elliott as they walked off the field. Both of them were smiling.
Take a listen to Steve Spurrier’s comments below and also a few minutes from defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward.
Ed note: Per USC policy we can only post maximum five minutes of audio.
