SS Marcus Mooney of Palm Beach State JC, FL, the brother of former USC shortstop Peter Mooney, has committed to the Gamecocks for the 2013 class reports John Whittle of TheBigSpur. He also considered NC State, Florida State, Miami and Florida Atlantic. He will have three years of eligibility. His team won the Florida JUCO championship this past season and finished second in the Junior College World Series. This past season Mooney batted .327 with 30 RBIs and 18 stolen bases.
WR Artavis Scott of Tarpon Springs, FL has his list down to Clemson, Florida and South Florida. He plans to announce his decision at The Opening in the next day or two and Clemson looks like the strong favorite based on media observations. Last week Clemson quarterback commitment Deshaun Watson said he expected Scott to commit to Clemson.
DE Andrew Williams of McDonough, GA will announce his final five schools tonight at The Opening. Clemson and USC are among his top ten. Notre Dame, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida State and LSU are some of the others that have been strong with him.
DB Jalen Tabor of Washington, DC said at The Opening Monday Florida and Maryland are his top two. USC is among his other offers.
DL Kendall Baker of Atlanta plans to announce this week at The Opening and is down to Clemson, Georgia, Auburn, Florida State and Georgia Tech. Georgia is the favorite.
DL Peyton Newell of Hawatha, KS revealed a final four Saturday on Twitter. Newell listed USC, Nebraska, Kansas and Kansas State as the four. In an interview earlier in June, Newell said he actually had USC and Nebraska as his finalists with no leader. He visited Nebraska for a camp in June and he hopes to make a return trip to Columbia in July for the Black Magic Showcase Camp. Newell will announce his decision on August 30th at his school.
OL Bentley Spain of Charlotte, who at one point appeared to favor USC, plans to make his decision this month. North Carolina and Stanford are now his top two.
Clemson quarterback commitment Deshaun Watson is ranked fourth and Stratford quarterback Jacob Park, a Georgia commitment, is ranked 8th in the first ranking released at the Elite 11 competition. David Blough of Texas is currently ranked as the #1 quarterback. Kyle Allen of Arizona is #2.
6-4 Justice Wright of Warner Robins, GA, the daughter of former Clemson star Sharone Wright, has committed to the Lady Tigers for the 2014 class according to the Macon Telegraph. Wright attends Houston County High School. New Clemson coach Audra Smith had a commitment from Wright when she was the coach at UAB and was able to get her to switch to Clemson. Wright averaged 10 points and 9 rebounds per game last season according to MaxPreps. Sharone Wright was a Clemson star in the 1990s and was the 6th pick in the 1994 draft by Philadelphia.
2G Tyre Moore of Charleston Collegiate committed Monday to Mercer.
