6-5 LJ Peak of Gaffney has announced that he will make his college decision next week. The story does not end there. His friend and teammate, WR Shaq Davidson will also announce the same day. Moments ago, Peak tweeted, “Me and shaq will be committing to our college at Gaffney High School on Tuesday at 6:00 pm. Everybody come out and support us [sic].” This could bode well for USC as it has been widely speculated that the two good friends want to attend the same school. Davidson has been a Gamecock lean for some time. Peak, who returned to Gaffney this year after a one year stint at Whitney Young in Chicago, recently narrowed his list to USC, Georgetown and Florida State. USC and FSU are the only two similar schools on the pair’s lists. If the duo is in fact a package deal which appears to be the case since the tweet reads, “Me and shaq will be committing to our college,” the Gamecocks appear to be the front runner for these two athletes.
DB John Battle of Hallandale, FL announced a commitment to LSU Friday afternoon. He also considered USC, Tennessee, Southern Cal, South Florida, NC State and Louisville.
DE Andrew Williams of McDonough, GA will release his top five next week. USC and Clemson have been strong with him and one or both figure to be on his short list. He visited Clemson and Auburn earlier this summer. Clemson was one of his first offers.
USC 2015 commitment DE Arden Key of Lithonia, GA visited Auburn Friday and he now has the Tigers third on his list behind USC and Georgia. He plans to revisit Auburn July 13th with his father.
Teammates RB Donte Thomas-Williams and WR Trevion Thompson of Durham, NC today released their shortened lists and Clemson is on both. Thomas-Williams is down to Clemson, West Virginia, Florida State and Notre Dame. Thompson has his short list down to Clemson, Ohio State, Florida State, NC State, North Carolina and West Virginia.
Clemson QB commitment Deshaun Watson told a reporter today he thinks Clemson will get a commitment next week from WR Artavis Scott of Tarpon Springs, FL at The Opening in Oregon. Scott camped at Clemson earlier this month. Watson will also be at The Opening and at the Elite 11 finals in California.
DL Andrew Brown of Chesapeake, VA will announce his college choice Saturday at The Opening. He’s down to Clemson, Virginia, Florida State, Virginia Tech and Alabama. He will announce during a live chat with ESPN’s RecruitingNation.
DL Abu Lamin of Fort Scott JC, KS moved USC to the front of his list last weekend after making an official visit and the Gamecocks are maintaining that advantage. “I’m getting lots of love from the Gamecock fans,” Lamin said Thursday night. “They really want me to be a Gamecock. It’s looking like I’m going to be a Gamecock. I’m going to Arkansas July 19th. They are going to try to flip my mind but right now the Gamecocks are my number one. It’s a really, really strong lead. I’m from Fayetteville, NC and that’s about two hours away (from Columbia). My folks can come see me play and they are the only SEC team in the Carolinas. To me, that’s a big, big plus.” Lamin plans to visit Georgia July 12th and he also plans to visit Tennessee during his bye week this season. He’s also been to Florida and Auburn. He’s not sure when he’ll make his decision. It could come before the season, midway thru or after the season. Lamin talked with USC recruiter Deke Adams Wednesday. “Me and coach Adams have a connection,” he said. “We talk like I’m already on the team. He’s excited about me and he wants me to be a Gamecock.”
DB Jalen Tabor of the District of Columbia has narrowed his list down to “eight to ten” schools and named USC as one of them. “I don’t want to say the list because I’m scared I’ll leave one or two off,” Tabor admitted. “I can say that South Carolina is definitely one of my top eight.” Tabor said he feels comfortable with what the Gamecocks can offer saying, “I mean it’s SEC football, you know? It’s a competitive league and (USC) is a good school. It’s somewhere I feel like I can go in and play and compete for a job.” Tabor has maintained contact with the USC coaching staff and says they want him to visit. He plans to visit several Southern schools including USC. Some of the other schools he mentioned he would like to visit include Alabama, Vanderbilt and Florida. His offers include USC, Clemson, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, Florida State, Vanderbilt, Michigan, North Carolina, NC State, Maryland and West Virginia among others. He does not have a favorite.
