Tonight we welcomed into the program USC baseball coach Chad Holbrook to recap the 2013 season with us.
The Gamecocks lost a hard-fought 3-game Super Regional series with the Tar Heels of North Carolina last week in Chapel Hill, denying the Gamecocks a trip to Omaha to play in the College World Series for the first time in 3 seasons.
Holbrook is still not over the Super Regional defeat and he doesn’t think he’ll be coming to grips with it any time soon, either. He did his best tonight to recap the series, nevertheless. He also provided us with a general overview of his feelings on the season as a whole.
Holbrook looked to the future with Phil as well and let us in on a very early preview of what he believes his squad will look like around the diamond next season. He led off with a bang, informing us that, as of now, they don’t plan to play Joey Pankake at shortstop. It looks as though Pankake will see the mound quite often next season to buffer the loss of relievers Tyler Webb and Adam Westmoreland.
Holbrook also expounded on the other arms already featured in the program that will be returning, as well as the new arms that will arrive in 2014. He also updates us on the guys who enjoy some time on the gridioron, too, in Shon Carson and Ahmad Christian.
