RB Derrell Scott of Havelock, NC remains open about his decision and will visit Ohio State and Florida State this summer his coach said Wednesday. Those visits will take place in the next couple of weeks. “I think he’s still going to wait and take all of his official visits before he makes his decision,” coach Jim Bob Bryant said. USC, Clemson and Oregon round out Scott’s top five. Bryant said Scott won’t visit USC this summer since he’s been there multiple times but he may make it to Clemson. The coach does not sense a favorite for his star back at this point. “Its 1A, 1B and 1C right now I think,” he said. “No order. I think all five are pretty even right now until he takes officials to all five of them and see what they have to offer.” USC is also a factor with Bryant’s junior receiver Michael Bowman. The Gamecocks have offered along with North Carolina, NC State and East Carolina. Bowman will also go to Ohio State when Scott visits there.
DL Abu Lamin of Fort Scott JC, KS is going to take his official visits this summer and will make his decision later this summer instead of waiting until the midway point of his season. “I really want to focus on my academics,” Lamin said Wednesday night. “Honestly I may be making my decision probably June, July or August. Sometime before the season.” Lamin visited Arkansas unofficially earlier this week. He has set an official visit to Florida for June 14th and one to USC June 21st. Lamin talked with Gamecock recruiter Deke Adams Wednesday night to finalize plans for his visit which will include his mother and brother who will drive down from Fayetteville, NC. “I want to see the fans because that’s who I’m going to be playing for,” Lamin said. “Also the academic progress, knowing that I can get help to get my degree. From a football standpoint, I know at South Carolina you have to come in ready to go. It’s going to be intense. I want to see the stadium, the lockerroom and put on one of those Gamecock jerseys. And I want to interact with the coaches, listen to then talk some schemes and where they will have me at, and depth chart wise.” Lamin said at this point USC, Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia, Arizona State, Florida, Nebraska and LSU are the schools he’s most interested in. “I’m impressed with all those schools.” He did not name a favorite.
LB James David (6-3 230) of Rockdale, TX has received letters from USC but has not spoken with any coaches yet. David is interested in the Gamecocks and is considering visiting this summer. “I want to visit Miami and South Carolina,” said David. “I’ve seen (USC) play on TV a bunch of times and they’ve gotten really good over the last three or four years. I like that. They can play with anyone in the country.” David has offers from Baylor, Colorado, Wshington State, Houston, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and TCU. “I’ve only really visited Baylor and Oklahoma State so I don’t have any favorites,” he said. “I want to get out and see more schools this summer so I know what I’m looking for.” He did not name a date for a possible visit to Columbia.
DL Thomas Holley of Brooklyn, NY will take a trip to the state of Florida next week to visit the big three, Miami, Florida and Florida State. “After that, I don’t have any visit scheduled,” said Holley. “But I’m definitely going to visit Clemson and Notre Dame. Hopefully I can get down to Clemson this summer.” Holley remains in contact with the Tigers coaching staff. “They keep telling me how much I could help out on their defense,” he said. “They tell me about the academics over there and what it’s like there.” NC State is the latest to offer Holley but he is undecided on a visit to Raleigh. Holley wants to take several visits before he begins to narrow his list and says he does not any favorites. Each of the previously mentioned schools have offered Holley. Alabama, Pitt, Rutgers, Boston College, Tennessee, Penn State, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Kentucky an Nebraska among others have also offered.
