The state of South Carolina is blessed with a plethora of quality college baseball programs with an abundance of tradition. Three programs in particular have stood out in recent years as mainstays in postseason play: USC, Clemson, and Coastal Carolina. Last season all three programs ended up staying close by and playing in the Columbia regional, with the Gamecocks being the victors on their way to a 3rd straight National Championship appearance.
2013 will be no different as the Gamecocks, Tigers, and Chanticleers will all be involved in regional play this coming weekend in hopes of making it out to Omaha. The Chants will be taking the teal up north this year and playing in the Blacksburg regional, hosted by top-seeded Virginia Tech. The Tigers are making their way back to Columbia for the second year in a row in hopes of claiming redemption against top-seeded USC. Liberty is the three seed in the Columbia regional, the Billikens of St. Louis will round out the 4 team pool.
The host site teams were released Sunday night, and the remainder of the field was unveiled Monday.
Monday night on SportsTalk we were honored to corral all three coaches of the respective Universities that will be representing our state in postseason play to get their thoughts on where they’re headed, and what they’re expecting from the particular fields they’ll have to navigate in search of a trip to Omaha.
