Winning two of three at LSU wasn’t enough to move USC up in either of the two major college baseball polls. The Gamecocks became the first team this season to win a series at then second ranked LSU, but they are still ranked 15th in by both Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball this week. The Gamecocks midweek loss to Gardner-Webb no doubt hurt them as they finished the week at 2-2.
Clemson had a 3-1 week with a midweek win over Western Carolina and 2-1 ACC series win at home against Georgia Tech. That pushed the Tigers up seven spots to 18th in the Baseball America poll. Somehow the Tigers ended up dropping one spot in the Collegiate Baseball poll, falling from 13th to 14th.
Vanderbilt has taken over the top spot in the Collegiate Baseball poll. North Carolina, LSU, Cal State Fullerton and Oregon State round out the top five teams in that poll. Baseball America still has North Carolina number one. Vanderbilt is second, with LSU third and Cal State Fullerton and NC State coming in fourth and fifth respectively.
Both USC and Clemson are off until this weekend for exam break. The Gamecocks open a home series with top ranked Vanderbilt Friday night. Clemson begins a home series with Maryland Saturday.
