Greer native Bill Haas battled the strong afternoon winds around Harbour Town Friday afternoon for a two under 69 leaving him one shot back late in the second round of the RBC Heritage at Hilton Head Island. Play was suspended by heavy rain Friday with 17 players still on the course. They will return at 8:00 AM Saturday morning to complete the round.
Haas is a shot back of Kevin Streelman, Charley Hoffman and Tour rookie Seve LeBrun who share the 36 hole lead at six under par.
Haas followed up his bogey free round of 68 on Thursday with a three birdie, one bogey effort on Friday. Haas had the putter working for him Friday requiring just 25 putts compared to 33 on Thursday.
Streelman and Hoffman, who each had a 66 Thursday, matched one under par 70s on Friday. LeBrun followed his 68 of Thursday with another 68.
Wofford’s Bill McGirt and Scott Brown of USC Aiken are in a two under par for the tournament and Clemson’s Jonathan Byrd is at one under. Bishopville’s Tommy Gainey and Russell Henley of Daniel Island are one over.
First round leader Scott Davis, who opened with a 65, skied to a 75 Friday leaving him at two under par.
The cut line currently sits at one over but Jesper Parnevik faces a put of a little over five feet on the 18th Saturday morning to save par. If he makes the put to stay at one over, the cut will remain at plus one and 71 golfers will play on the weekend. Should he miss, the cut will move to plus two and opened the door for up to 21 more golfers to make the cut. The top 70 scores and ties make the cut.
