The women’s college basketball season comes to an end tonight with the national championship game, but there is major news for women’s basketball fans in South Carolina.
USC’s women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley will be a member of the 2013 class that will enter the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Staley was a two-time national player of the year for the Virginia Cavaliers. She then played professionally in the American Basketball League and the WNBA, along with winning three gold medals with the U.S. Olympic team. She led Temple to a 172-80 record over eight seasons before coming to South Carolina. She took USC to the Sweet Sixteen in 2011 and led the Gamecocks to a 25-8 mark this season.
Tonight, Staley talked to us about becoming a member of her sport’s Hall of Fame and how it will affect her.
