DL Dexter Wideman of Saluda has added Florida State and LSU to his offers from USC, Clemson, Ole Miss, Florida and Michigan. The recent offers have served as motivation for Wideman. “It’s pretty exciting to tell you the truth,” he said. “It makes me want to work even harder.” Wideman remains is contact with Clemson and USC and is planning to attend the Gamecocks scrimmage Saturday. “They’ve been encouraging me to continue to work hard,” said Wideman. “They want me to come up this Saturday so I’ll be there.” Clemson is also asking Wideman to stop by. “They want me to come up and I’m going to try really hard to make it,” he said. Wideman will visit FSU during his spring break and looks forward to the trip. “I know they have a great program and I like the way they play,” he said. “I can’t wait to get down there.” As for other visits Wideman said, “I’m going to try to visit as many schools as I can but that’s not easy.” He does not have any favorites and named signing day as the day he plans to announce his decision.
QB Drew Barker of Hebron, KY is the only quarterback USC has offered in the 2014 class and he will be on campus starting Friday. He plans to stay thru the weekend. And Barker plans to return to USC for their spring game in April. Barker has been strong on USC, Tennessee and Kentucky. He plans to make a decision in late April or early May.
Clemson head coach Brad Brownell and assistant coach Earl Grant met Thursday with 6-10 Sidy Mohamed Djitte of Senegal and Northwood Temple Prep in Fayetteville, NC and the Tigers are in strong position at this point. “It went real well,” said coach Chris Lattimer. “It went a little over two hours. They really formed a bond with Sidy. They were just hanging out. It was just wonderful. Lot of good vibes. He really likes Clemson. He’s a real big fan of Brownell and Grant and their engineering program.” Mohamed Djitte has set an April 12th date for his official visit to Clemson. He also wants to visit Old Dominion. ODU has also been in and he has been there unofficially. Auburn and Ohio State have also been strong with him.
Clemson also has offered 6-10 PF Ibrahim Djambo of Three Rivers JC in Missouri. Brownell was by recently for a visit with him. He has set official visits with Loyola Chicago, Saint Louis and Southern Illinois. He averaged 18 points and 9 rebounds per game this season.
6-0 PG Jaylen Shaw of Hartsville made an official visit to Tulane last weekend and is expecting a visit from USC coaches next week. Shaw is focusing on Tulane, USC, Miami of Ohio, Coastal Carolina and Virginia Tech. Tulane, Miami of Ohio and Coastal have offered Shaw who was once committed to High Point. Virginia Tech plans to visit with him Sunday. Shaw said he will take an official visit to Miami of Ohio but has not set the date. He is optimistic his upcoming meetings with USC and Virginia Tech will lead to offers. Shaw was named the WPDE-15 Zoneman of the Year as the area player of the year. He was also selected for the Carolinas All Star Classic. This season Shaw led Hartsville to the 3A state title averaging 24 points and 8 assists per game.
