Tonight Phil Kornblut was broadcasting live from Myrtle Beach where he was at the Carolina All-Star Classic skills competition. The top boys and girls basketball players from North and South Carolina were partaking in the 3 point shooting and slam dunk competitions.
While there, Phil was lucky enough to get ahold of the top male and female player from the state of South Carolina, Justin Mckie of Irmo High School and Alaina Coates from Dutch Fork High.
Both Mckie and Coates will take their talents to the FBS level and stay in-state as well. They’ll both be attending USC for their college careers.
Kornblut got an idea of what Coates’ strengths are as a player. She averaged 20 points and 11 rebounds as a senior. She was also named a McDonald’s All-American.
Mckie is the son of former USC standout, BJ Mckie. His Yellow Jackets went 29-0 this season and won another state championship. Mckie recounts his final season at Irmo, talks about this weekend’s all-star game, and his future in Columbia as a Gamecock.
