The College of Charleston will host George Mason Tuesday night in a first round game of the College Basketball Invitational. The game will give Cougar fans a preview of a future Colonial Athletic Association match up as Charleston joins that league next season.
The Cougars have won three of four previous meetings with the Patriots. Charleston is 24-10 and the Patriots are 18-14.
“We are thrilled to be able to play in the postseason,” Cougar coach Doug Wojcik said. “Looking at all of the teams that made the NIT field, Kentucky, Virginia, Alabama and Tennessee, we are fortunate to be playing in the CBI and are excited for the opportunity to continue our season.” Wojcik won the inaugural CBI at Tulsa in 2008.
This will be Charleston’s third appearance in this tournament reaching the quarterfinals in 2009 and 2010.
The winner will face the winner of the Texas-Houston game in round two.
