USC first baseman LB Dantzler blasted a pair of home runs and drove in a career high six runs to propel the Gamecocks to a 12-4 win over Davidson at chilly Carolina Stadium Wednesday night in their final game before opening SEC play this weekend at Missouri. The Gamecocks extended their winning streak to eight and will enter league play with a 15-2 record.
Dantzler homered to right center in the first to stake the Gamecocks to a 2-0 lead. It was 6-0 going to the bottom of the sixth when the Gamecocks erupted for five runs with Dantzler’s three run homer to right the big blow. That was his sixth homer of the season.
The Gamecocks finished with 13 hits on the night. Max Schrock and Kyle Martin had two hits apiece.
Joel Seddon started on the mound for USC and pitched four innings of two hit ball. He struck out six and walked two but did not figure in the decision. Freshman Curt Britt, ,the first of five relievers, earned his first career victory working two hitless innings.
The Gamecocks will open a three game series at Missouri Friday night. Evan Beal will start for USC on Friday. Nolan Belcher will start Saturday and Colby Holmes will go on Sunday.
Holbrook said inijured lefthander Jordan Montgomery will be re-evaluated Tuesday. Holbrook said he is definitely out for the Missouri and Arkansas series, and probably will miss the Texas A&M series.
